THEATRE FOR DIALOGUEActing Class

Join us for this 6-week class in using theatre as a tool for story sharing, dialogue, and community engagement.

Jan. 7th - Feb. 11th

Open to all Port Townsend School District 6th - 12th grade students.

In this playful and empowering acting class, students will learn advanced improvisation and physical theatre skills from the world-renowned Theatre of the Oppressed (problem solving) & Playback Theatre (Storytelling), while sharing stories and devising short plays of interest to them. As we sometimes refer to in this work, change the world and have a good time doing it. Freeing and fun! At the end of the 6-weeks, some students will be invited to join an additional 6-week session to form a Youth Performance Ensemble using these amazing techniques. The plan is to do a series of performances in the spring, for audiences of their peers as well as the community at large.

* Students must commit to the full 6 weeks in their entirety. As the material covered builds on itself, this is not a drop-in class.

Theatre for Dialogue

Theatre for Dialogue includes training and practice in various forms of "Applied Theatre" - theatre / acting as a tool, not simply as entertainment. Designed for both actors and non-actors, it's a way of using theatre to help people talk, listen, share, and engage in a dynamic and fun community environment. It is a great way to share stories, build connection, spark conversations, and make positive changes together. Performances are highly engaging, audience participatory, playful, and transformative.
